Metcalf Moving & Storage is headquartered on an eight-acre parcel not far from where Allen's father started the business in 1919. Allen remembers his mother, Elna, taking orders from her kitchen. Allen purchased the company from his father in 1951, shortly after returning from a tour of duty with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Today the company has warehouse operations in Minneapolis-St. Paul and Rochester, Minnesota. In addition to household goods moving, the agency has specialized divisions handling record management, electronics and trade show moves, hotel furniture installation, and consumer home delivery.
