The story goes that Midwest Photo was started in 1927 by a firm selling vitamins through the mail. The location was believed to be on Jackson Street between Kellogg and 4th Street. Apparently vitamins were a tough sell and it was hoped a list of mail order prospects for vitamins might be developed from buyers of mail order film processing. At any rate, ads were placed in various farm journals and business came in. In addition to the Midwest Photo name, the company also did business as Jumbo Picture Co.
