| Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Hear Ye! That was the call of the town crier of colonial times. It was one of the ways the government spoke to the people. A new law was passed, a notice was posted on a wall in town where all could see it.It is that tradition -- the government being accountable to the people -- that continues today. All city and county governments are required by law to publish information on meetings, bids, annual financial statements and other aspects of their operations. It is a key to an open, honest government. In that same spirit of openness, individuals, banks and other institutions are required to publish certain notices: foreclosure notices on real estate, probate notices, new business filings known as assumed names, to name a few.The St. Paul Legal Ledger has built a solid reputation over the past 75 years for its unwavering ability to meet the public notice needs of the community. |
